The World Underneath

this is a page which I'll probably talk about vampires a lot, specifically referring to vampire the masquerade, mostly this is just something which I happen to know about, and isn't as inherently able to be used as much as some other things I might talk about.

I mean unless you're going to play VtM, but otherwise you likely should just use the wiki for that, which I can link if you need it

so a bit of a funny detail to this, the christian god is cannon in this wold of darkness setting, but isn't the most powerful being in existence now really, the only reason that this is noted about this is that the bible has the origin of vampires themselves in this setting, that being the story of Caine creating the first vampire ever. which makes sense if you've read the story. the lines can easily be interpreted this way from how it says that cain is cursed to never be able to die, or to never be able to reap another harvest:

now the detail of being able to reap crops could be said to be a metaphor for what the vampire must do to live, never able to eat food again

some details abotu vampires in particular are the fact that most folklore styled methods of dealing with vampires do not apply to them to instantly kill them, and that those who still have folklore details are from specific bloodlines

vampires don't die from garlic, still have reflections, and don't instantly dies from stakes

the only way of truly killing vampires is from the sun, or alternatively fire, and things such as holy water and crosses only intensely weaken them

now vampires can really survive most of anything otherwise, they regenerate limbs easily, and if staked will only be paralyzed, though from common circumstance, while staking does not kill them, they usually die from this from easily being dragged outside or set on fire

vampires are 'embraced' as a term of being turned, and are given 'clans', being the 'bloodlines' that determine their abilities and typical curses

now there are a couple clans with specific powers and archetypes, and exceptions to clans in general, being the caitiffs and thin-bloods
